A taxonomic investigation on the fish fauna of Gerger district in Atatürk Dam Lake

In this study, the fish fauna of Atatürk Dam Lake and it's taxonomic features are searched. With this aim , between October 2012 and April 2013 the fish samples were catched with using trammel nets with different mesh sizes (18, 24, 32 and 54 mm bar length), throw nets that have different mesh sizes and different sizes of scoop nets. 267 fish were examined during the study. A total of 8 fish species that belong to 3 families were found at the end of the investigation. The fish's natural colour , stain, tape, spot , line and designs's of shapes and locations were determined in land.Then the samples were conveyed to laboratory and they were diagnosed. All samples ' that separated according to the species metric (with total, prong and standard heigth - head , nose ,predorsal and postdorsal length , eye diameter , body height) and meristic (the numbers of soft and hard ray on fins, the numbers of scales on lateral line, beginnig of dorsal fin- lateral line and beginning of ventral fin- the numbers of scales among lateral line) features were determined. With comparing the findings and similar studies studied on other water sources , similarities and differences were tried to reveal with the reasons.
