Özet (EN)
The republican revolutions have targeted civilization in all aspects of the society. While maintaining the developments in public life, they also included ?women?, as one of the most important component of this new civilized society. (While maintaining the developements in public, ?women? on the otherhand were a key component in the upcoming new civilized society.)Along with the revolutions, a big change had been launched for the Turkish women, whom has been left behind the pace for many years. The beauty contests which have taken place after the beginning of the republic, had proven the visibility of this big change. In order to extend the boundaries of this big change in Turkish women?s life to the world, Turkish women attended international contests as well. These beauty contests became an essential tool to illustrate the benefits of the republican revolutions to women.(worldwide) In this paper, the contributions of the beauty contests to Turkish modernization are examined through the special glass of Keriman Halis, the first prize winner of the world beauty contest that took place in 1932.
