Celebrations of 9th September during Atatürk Period (1923-1938)

9th of September 1922 is a milestone for the Turkish History. Turkish War of Independence started with the occupation of Izmir by Greece on 15 th of May 1919 and Ataturk?s arrival to Samsun after 4 days came to an end with regaining Izmir and Turkish nation has resumed its liberty on 9th of September following an occupation period of 3 years, 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days .Following the liberation enthusiastic celebrations have been organised for 9th September anniversaries, which is the starting point of the revolutions realised in Turkey and giant steps on the way to development, public works and development and evolution on alla areas. The traces of occupation which were seen in the first years have been erased with becoming closer with Greece and Izmir with years of fairs and exhibitions has gained a characteristic of Trade and tourism city on liberation days.The purpose of this study is to analyse the 9th September celebrations made between 1923-1938 years with all aspects. The main sources used for this study have been the newspapers of that period. Taking into account the preparation time for the celebrations all news and articles published after July period have been examined. In addition to this the momeoirs published by the persons who have witnessed this period have also been consulted.A place is also given to the poems written for 9th September period and the affects of this period in the hearts. The reflections of the followed national and Foreign policies on the celebrations, the problems, disappointments and excitement of the community in Izmir and in the region have been displayed with some examples from the press and some evaluations have been made at the end of this study.
