The analysis of the leisure attitudes and the factors that constraint lei̇sure time participation of the students in Ataturk University

Objectives: The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between leisure attitudes and the factors that constraint leisure activities of the students studying at Ataturk University. The matter to be resolved before the study is to measure the ability of individuals with a high level of leisure attitude to overcome the factors that constraint the leisure activities. While undergraduate students studying at Ataturk University consisted the universe of the study, 409 females and 341 males 750 students in total, chosen randomly from 11 different faculties, consisted the sample group. Materials and methods: with the objective of obtaining data in the research, Leisure Attitude Scale (LAS) developed by Raghep and Beard (1982) and adapted into Turkish with validity and reliability by Akgül and Gürbüz (2010); Leisure Constraints Scale developed by Alexandris and Carol (1997) and adapted into Turkish with validity and reliability by Karaküçük and Gürbüz (2007), and revised by Gürbüz, Öncü, and Emir (2012) were used. SPSS 20.0 statistical software was used in evaluating the obtained data, and among parametric tests, Independent Sample T-test and one-Way ANOVA test were carried out. Pearson Correlation analysis was carried out to examine the relationship between scales. Results: In the study, significant relationship (p<0.01) was observed between the leisure attitudes and leisure constraints of the participants. Results: At the end of the study, a significant positive relationship (p<0.01) was observed between the leisure attitudes of the participants and the factors that constraint the leisure activities.
