Use of waste vehicle tire in concrete and its characteristics of concrete

Waste vehicle tires are one of these solid wastes. These waste tires that aregradually increasing, cause a huge environmental, human health and aesthetic problems. Forthis reason, the management of waste vehicle tires is very important. There are various studiesabout management of waste vehicle tires. Aim of this study is to use of waste vehicle tires inconcrete as aggregate, hence, it contributes to management of waste vehicle tires andinvestigates the effects of waste tire on characteristics of concrete.In this study, normal aggregate was replaced with waste vehicle tires 5%, 10, 15 and 20of the total aggregate volume in the concrete and tested density, workability, compressivestrength, flexural strength, split tensile strength, SEM analysis, EDX analysis and pulse velocitymeasuring of concrete.After the experimental results, it is seen that density, compressive strength, tensilestrength and pulse velocity values of concrete decrease while the waste tire content in concreteincreases. However, the flexural strength of concrete with waste tire aggregate presented adifference according to content and types of waste tire. It is shown that the effect of coarse tireaggregate is better than fine tire aggregate.Keywords: Concrete, waste tire aggregate, characteristic properties of concrete.IX
