The relationship between multi-disciplines performances and academic achievement of 10-14 years old children in athletics

The aim of this study is to determine the correlation between total ISF (Inetrnational School Federation) scores obtained by participating in triple competition and academic achievements of the athletes who participated in athletics selection competitions of Athletes Education Centers. In this study, there are 536 athletes, 260 boys and 276 girls, participated. The mean age of boys is 12.3 years, and the mean age of girls is 12.0 years. Spearman correlation analysis was used for the correlation analysis of the data not showing normal distribution. The analyses show that there were positive insignificant correlations between male athletes' Running ISF scores and Social Studies Lessons also between Throwing ISF score and Physical Education and Sports Lessons. In female athletes, positive correlations were found between Running ISF score and Visual Arts and Technology Design (TD) Lessons; between Throwing ISF score and TD Lessons; and between Jumping ISF score and TD Lessons. In addition, there was a negatively insignificant low correlation between the Total ISF score and the Maths, a positive and low correlation between Total ISF and the Visual Arts, and a weak positive correlation between Total ISF and the Technology and Design. In 10-, 11- and 14-year-old males a negative correlation was determined between Science, Foreign Languages and Social Studies and Running, Jumping and Total ISF. In 10 and 11 females a negative correlation was found between Science, Foreign Languages and Maths and all ISFs. Also, in 12- and 13-year-old females, a positive correlation was found between Turkish, SS, Religion Culture and Ethics, TD and all ISF scores. As a result, it can be said that ISF scores of athletes differ according to age and gender of the athletes.
