Abstract (EN)
INVASTIGATING THE TRIGGERING MECHANISM OF WEATHERCONDITIONS CONTAINING DUST ON MIGRAINE HEADACHEDr Hacer DOĞANAYTez Danışmanı Prof Dr Hayrunnisa BOLAY BELENMigraine is one of the most important illnesses affecting 15-20% of public causingworking day and economical loss of adults because of headache and accompanyingsymptoms.Studies invastigating migraine triggering effects of atmospheric weather conditionsconcluded 60% sensitivity of migraine patients to atmospheric weather changes. In thesestudies, atmospheric weather alteration parameters such as atmospheric pressure, humidity, wind and temperature have been investigated. Though the effect of Sahara dust and contentsin atmospheric weather on headache has not been investegating till now.The effects of Sahara dust and accompanying microorganisms and products carried byatmospheric weather among continents on environment health has been drawing attentionlately. It is supposed that, Sahara dust containing weather conditions are related with allergicattacks (mast cell activation and cytokine formation). Transport of Sahara dust withatmospheric weather in some ratio is reminding of transport of some triggering factors. The underlying mechanism of migraine headache is activation of trigeminovascularsystem. In order to investigate the triggering effects of Sahara dust, c-fosimmunohistochemistry which consists of trigeminovascular system activation is used. C-fosexpression existence of nociceptive neurons of brain stem nucleuses is studied on laboratuaryanimals breathing atmospheric weather containing Sahara dust. If these conditions aretriggering headache, the above mechanisms may cause c-fos expression of ventral TNClamina I and II, terminal point of trigeminal nerve ophtalmic division.1The aim of this study is to investigate whether a new factor in the atmosphere may bea factor triggerring headache or not.2
