Ulusalcilik in thought of Attila İlhan

This thesis includes comments of Attila İlhan's "Ulusalcılık" obtained as a result of approaching with comprehensive methodology. Ulusalcılık is principally the intersection of socialist/leftist thought and nationalism which actually are contrary to each other. This thesis searchs answer for how come and by means of what these to opposing ideology can reveal a synthesis underneath ulusalcılık. Key features of nationalist ideology were aimed to be explained in the first cheapter. The idea that this ideology is open to racism was put into words considering different remarks on nationalism. "Muslim/Turk nationalism" which was developed as a reaction and inspired by nationalism movement which came out of Christian community in late period of Ottoman State was considered in the second chapter. The emphasis was put on the transformation of this "nationalism" to a nationalism which includes "secular state", and emphasizes only Turkishness, detached from Muslim constituents by the foundation of Turkish Republic. Third cheapter constitutes the comments on the principal factors that shaped Attila İlhan's nationalist ideology such as Gazi Mustafa Kemal, laicism/positivist, firm belief for scientific method and national synthesis that is aimed to be followed by this belief and national left.
