Representation of the violence on Atv and Netflix: A cultivation theory perspective

This thesis aims to reveal comparatively reveal the role of television and digital streaming platforms in Turkey on the way individuals conceptualize social reality and perceive the world from the perspective of Cultivation Theory. In this study, the Turkish TV series on the ATV channel and the Netflix digital streaming platform was analyzed through message system and cultivation analysis. Mainstreaming analyses were carried out by comparing the two channels. This is to find out whether the cultivation is happening through television or digital platform. Survey questions were prepared based on the findings obtained from the message system analysis applied to both channels. The survey was conduct to a research group consisting of 420 students at Anadolu University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. The data obtained from the survey were examined through chi-square distributions. A total of 32 tests were conducted, 16 for ATV and 16 for Netflix. Mainstreaming tests were conducted in 3 categories: gender, socio-economic status and age. A total of 48 mainstreaming tests were conducted for ATV and 48 for Netflix in the relevant categories. As a result of the tests, it was revealed that the cultivation and mainstreaming role of the digital streaming platform is more than television.
