Augustae: The Roman Empresses [Women's traces in the Palace (BC 58-AD 175)]

Women have always been put in the second plan for a long time throughout human history. Even in the Adam and Eve mythology, one of the earliest religious discourses known to all today, they have been made dependent on men with the thought of being created from Adam's rib. In the rumors about the establishment of Ancient Rome, which is the subject of this statement, neighboring Sabin women were abducted, raped, and could not escape the violence of the man. In other words, men have had a say in every sense for a long time since the early history of Rome. However, it is interesting that some women, although rarely, in Rome towards the end of the Republic Period, did some political activities that could not be underestimated according to the world of that day. In our thesis, based on the concepts of augusta and empress, which emerged with the Roman Empire Period, the women who left their mark on the period were examined. In this context, mainly philological resources, numismatic and archaeological findings were also used. The temporal framework of the thesis constitutes the years between 27 BC and 175 AD. Although the name of our thesis seems to bring the concept of "augustae" (empresses) to the fore, as seen in the subtitle, in the palace; the effective or ineffective stories of all women who have been found to be spouses, lovers and, above all, mothers, have been tried to be addressed.
