The comparison of education methods computer assisted learning and Ausubel's expository teaching in preventing of misconceptions on chemistry units

Ausubel?s Expository Teaching and Computer Assisted Learning havepositive effects on the students? learning and success. Especially, technologicalpractices in education are factors increasing the success of student.In this study, to be able to prevent misconceptions on some chemistry?ssubjects, Ausubel?s Expository Teaching and Computer Assisted Learning have beenused.This study has been applied to experimental and control groups formed bystudents chosen randomly from Ba yurdu High School (76 students) and TurgutluScience High School (68 students) in the second term of 2005-2006 education year.The students chosen for application belong to Second and Third Classes in HighSchool. In control group, subjects were teached by teacher by using Ausubel?sExpository Teaching; in experimental group, students used computer materialsprepared for education method by way of presentation according to ComputerAssisted Learning. Before and after application, multiple choice success test andattitude scale to chemistry were applied to all groups. Obtained data were analysedby statistical methods.At the end of the study; there is a significant difference between the studentsutilised from Computer Assisted Learning in experimental group and the students incontrol group in attitude to chemistry. When examined the success of students, bothgroups exhibit increases in their success at the end of the study.Key Words: Ausubel?s Expository Teaching, Computer Assisted Learning,Misconception, Energy in Chemical Reactions, Reduction-Oxidation Reactions.
