Abstract (EN)

In 20th century, the conditions which revealed avantgarde art movements are the conditions that have emerged before World War I and after the war. Pursuit of new form of art which has developed during these conditions has originated to the factors and problems that prepared the war. Newly developed avantgarde movements by raising awareness to the dominance of capitalism to the every part of human life, enabled artists to stand against such conditions. As a consequence avantgarde artist constituted a new aestetichal value. During this period artists have become the part of every political phenomenon and diffused actively into every part of life. Avantgarde movements and the avantgarde artists especially rised in the Soviet Union, for the first time felt the capabelness facet of art and became the part of Bolshevik Revolution. In this thesis, the settings in which historical avantgardes emerged, development processes and novelty they brought to the art are investigated. Secondly, characteristics of avantgarde movements emerged in Soviet Union are concentrated on. Stage designers in Soviet Union have brought quite major novelties to stage, space and costume design during their own period. These novelties the designer brought into the stage design influenced the successor stage designers and stage directors and also contributed to the development of stage plastic of today's modern theatre. These thesis focuses on the new aesthetic perspectives towards stage design of Soviet avantgarde stage designers.
