Translate and evaluation of Avanzade Mehmed Sulayman's Articles in Journal of Maarif

The process of Tanzimat modernization led to the emergence of the Ottoman press. In 1831, the first official newspaper, Takvim-i Vekayi, was published. Later, semi-official and private newspapers began to be published. In the period of Abdulhamid II, the Ottoman press made great progress in terms of quality and quantity. In this period, besides newspapers, magazines containing thematic subjects were also published. One of them is Maarif Magazine. Avanzade Mehmed Süleyman is one of the authors of this magazine, which includes all kinds of technological, scientific, cultural and artistic developments, except for political and military issues. Avanzade Mehmed Süleyman is a pharmacist, translator and writer. Although he has many professions, he has come to the fore with his identity as a translator and author. He followed the European-based world press closely and published many articles in Maarif Magazine. His writings mainly consist of science and technology news, new inventions, medicine formulas, various statistics and math questions. In this study, the writings of Avanzade Mehmed Süleyman were translated and evaluated.
