Identity of European Union and current threats

Identity debates in the field of international relations have been a subject that has existed for many years. The subject of identity, which is drawn as a conceptual framework for many events or cases, also constitutes a basis for examining the identity of the European Union. It is possible to say that the European Union, which has managed to reach to the present day with a cumulative accumulation, took its support from its supranational structure. The European Union, which has a transnational identity, faces some problems in terms of its sustainability. Since the second half of the 20th century, many steps have been taken in Europe based on common identity policies. These steps supported by historical accumulation were in the idea of building a supra-national identity rather than the national sovereignty of the member states of the European Union. However, with the 21st century, the supra-superstructure of the European Union has given a continuity test against the identities based on national sovereignty. In the 21st century, the European Union was one of the directly affected parties from the paradigm shift around the world. While the sense of national sovereignty comes to the fore in the countries within the borders of the Union, the sense of belonging to the identity of the supranational European Union has decreased. Terrorist acts that threaten the European Union have contributed to the idea of national identity, particularly the issues of the countries affected by the economic crisis and increased illegal immigration to the Union countries. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of increasing the national identity within the borders of the European Union with regard to the content of the Union.
