Identity perception in the European Union: A field study with the citizens of the member states

This study is based on a field study conducted with the citizens of the European Union by the method of online ethnography. The first chapter of the thesis discusses the notion of identity and how does it occur. The second and third chapters are reserved for the field study where the second chapter emphasizes the individual's identity notion while the third chapter discusses the identity of the people. The aim of this study is to understand how do EU citizens identify themselves primarily and why do they choose this identification for themselves. The importance of the EU citizens' identity definitions within the context of the EU's identity policies is also discussed. On the one hand, the study tries to understand the opinions of the attendees regarding Europe, the meaning of being European for them and the values they attribute to Europe, on the other hand, it questions the EU citizens' opinions regarding the other EU countries and the necessity of a European Identity.
