Securization of international migration in European Union

The aim of this thesis is to investigate securitization of international migration in Europe. During this investigation, firstly, evaluation of migration and security from the 2n World War to present will be studied. Secondly, how the migration securitized in Europe will be examined at the point where migration and security intersect in this evaluation process. After that, Conceptual development of Migration and Security will be discussed according to institutional regulation and policy of government with chronological method. Then, securitization of migration is studied by critical, speech act and Foucault's analysis of the speech method. At the beginning of this period, after 2n World War, Migration was a requirement for economic development and growth. However, after the economic stagnation started in the 1970s, it became an undesirable fact. Due to the fact that Europe which became a welfare island, it has not wanted migration not to share the resources of welfare. Therefore, it creates Fortress Europe and strengthens borders to protect itself from new immigrant flows. Also Security, as concept, has changed dramatically in Europe since 2n World War. During the Cold War bipolar world, securitization in Europe primarily focused on state. But after Cold War, the principal focus of the new insecurity is society rather than state. As a result of this, migration could find a place in the new security problematic by being a threat for social security Securitization of the migration in Europe has developed on the basis of three relating themes. These are internal security, cultural security and the crisis of welfare state. Firstly European Union treaties and speech of social actors will be used to define the internal security. Secondly, discourse of "other" is used in order to build homogenized society. To do that, creating "other" is investigated by explaining the securitization of identity. Third and the last theme is the crisis of welfare state. It deals with unemployment and migrants. And also according to this item, immigrants have no legitimate rights for welfare provisions.
