Product standardization in European Union, CE marking and an application in OSTİM

Turkey's relations with European Union (EU) have gained a different dimension with the Custom Union Agreement that was signed by Turkey and EU in 1996. In this thesis, we are concerned about öte difference that manufacturing standards becoming compulsory for Turkey as well. With this aspect, we tried to establish the conditions and the containers arrangements that are necessary for the duty-free trade, analyzing the circumstances for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMSE) that have an important role in the economical and social development of Turkey. Moreover, how much the SMSEs know about the current situation is also questioned. A research was conducted on the high level managers of the SMSEs that are active in the elevator branch, in Ostim Organized Industrial Zone, in Ankara, in order to determine how prepared they are for the Community Europe (CE) sign. Within the research, using the information provided by the office of Ostim Organized Industrial Zone, one-to-one polls are taken from all of the SMSEs that are active in the elevator field in Ostim with the notion that it would be more effective. Because the research universe is very small, data collation with exact counting is preferred. Consequently, the polls are applied to 46 business enterprises. In the research, a poll including 21 questions is used am the collected data is classified and analyzed with the use of SPSS-10.0 (Statistical Package for Social Science) software. While analyzing the data, Frequency Analysis Method is used.
