Turkey and the main olive oil exporters in European Union

Since 1970, scientists make a lot of research concerning the positive effect of oliveoil on health. And since 1990, they are working on olive oil?s preventive effect on cancer.Results of the researchs have proven that olive oil is very useful for health, and so, after1990?s the consumption of olive oil has increased rapidly all over the world. Thus, worldolive oil trade have expanded.World?s all olive oil production is almost made by the Mediterranean countries.When we investigate the world?s olive oil production, consumption, exportation veimportation values, we find out that EU is leader in olive oil sector. The leader countriesin EU are, Italy, Spain and Greece. Turkey is also a Mediterranean country and olive oilproducer but its share in olive oil sector is very low.In this research study entitled ?Turkey and the Main Olive Oil Exporters inEuropean Union?, firstly, general information approaches about olive and theproduction process of olive oil and the definition and utility of olive oil are explained. Inthe second section, the world and EU?s olive oil sector are investigated and world?s andEU?s olive oil production, consumption, exportation ve importation values arementioned.In the final section of this study, olive oil sector in Turkey concerning production,consumption, exportation and importation values and the policies which applied to theolive oil sector are expressed. Olive oil sector in Italy, Spain and Greece is investigatedseparately. Attracted attention on the Turkey?s works and policies which is unsufficientfrom the production and marketing phases of olive oil.
