United States effect on European Union's Middle East policy

For centuries, the Middle East became the focus of attention for a large number of civilization and states, it has passed into history as the region that can not be shared. The region draws attention in the international arena due to its geostrategic and geopolitical importance. In addition, it has importance in world agenda due to the presence of %65 of oil and natural gas reserves in the region that are the raw materials of modern industrialization. In international system, it continually attracts the attention of large states. U.S and the EU both have interests in the region and they desire to apply a Middle East policy in accordance with their own interets.This research studies the U.S?s effects on EU's Middle East Policy, in this context three different period has been examined. Firstly, period between 1975-1991 is studied as Cold War period where the importance of the Middle East increase following the oil crisis. As bipolar system that formed during Cold War ends, the period from 1991 to 2003 outlined as Post Cold War period. The reason for choosing periods between 2003-2011 is US rigid policy on the region and in parallel to US policy EU's tendency to act independently decelerated.
