Sun's share in the European Union's renewable energy policy: Germany-Turkey comparative analysis

Most countries in the world are going towards to renewable energy sources and creating renewable energy policies due to the rapid depletion of fossil fuels. The importance of renewable energy sources is getting increase day by day due to be environmental friend and ensuring sustainability and reduce foreign dependency. EU ranks second on consuming energy in the world and ranks first in importing energy. Therefore, EU member countries are increasing their research in the field of renewable energy in recent years. Since solar energy is the source of all renewable energy sources and non-depletable source of energy, it has superior characteristics features when compared to other renewable energy sources. Germany is one of the leading countries in the world in solar energy producing and her target is to provide 80% of the electricity from renewable energy sources in 2050. Germany has the most established solar panels with achievements in renewable energy, Europe's cleanest and most sustainable energy market is also here. It is important for Turkey, which is in membership process, to know the EU's energy policies, resources and objectives. In potential membership status, it will be important for Turkey to establish economic stability and for agreements in the field of energy. In this study, it is examined the facts that prevent the use of solar energy in Turkey though Turkey has sunnier days than Germany in terms of climatic characteristics. It is investigated the reasons why Turkey cannot use the solar energy even though it is located in a bright region in comparison with Europe which is located in a dark area and how can use solar energy. It is also investigated Turkey's administrative, legal, technical, economic and political reasons why cannot use solar energy efficiently.
