Protection of personal data in Eu and Turkish law

In this study, we examined the right of protection of personal data which regarded as a different right from the protection of private life and family life, in the context of EU and Turkish law. Firstly, we defined the concept of personal data, after that we addressed the need for protection of personal data and basic principles of personal data protection law. Later, historical process of personal data protection law is mentioned. Finally, the personal data protection law is examined in the frame of EU and Turkish regulations. The similarities and differences between EU General Data Protection Regulation and Turkish Personal Data Protection Law No: 6698 is compared. Personal data protection provisions in Turkish Criminal Code No: 5237, Turkish Civil Code No: 4721 and Turkish Obligations Code No: 6098 are explained.
