Abstract (EN)

This paper provides an in-depth study of the importance of region of interest selection in palm biometric recognition systems and its impact on performance. Region of interest selection is a critical factor that determines the accuracy of biometric data and the overall performance of the system, and it enables the detection and analysis of regions where biometric features are concentrated. In our study, square regions of interest are created in the segmented hand images with reference to the inter-finger points. The segmentation process involves separating the palm region from the background and identifying the inter-finger points. After segmentation, a square region of interest is defined around this center point with reference to the identified inter-finger points. Regional size differences result in different sized regions of interest appearing in the segmented hand images. Variables such as whether the fingers are open or closed, the angle and position of the hand can cause differences in the size and shape of the region of interest. In this study, we experimentally analyzed the effects of different sized and shaped regions of interest on the accuracy of identification. The results obtained show the effects of different sizes of interest areas on biometric recognition performance. Correct region selection significantly improves the accuracy and processing speed of biometric verification systems. The effects of variables such as hand position on palm recognition have also been analyzed in detail. These findings are expected to contribute to the development of biometric systems and the creation of more reliable verification processes.
