Abstract (EN)

Wireless communications imply free-space signal transmissions and receiving that signal by a remote user or through a station. In optimum transmission, which does not involve noise, end-user/s can receive signals with the same power without information losses; however, in actual scenario, noise is inevitable in wireless communications. Digital modulation is performed to formulate an electrical version that suits free space transmission. The digital data stream can be efficiently transmitted from one station to another by breaking it into smaller blocks called as packets. The packet-switching circuits result in better noise immunity. Furthermore, variations in signal power and noise power provide better results on the receiver's end. Trellis coding modulation is applied for effective signal transmission. In this project, we have proposed a complete design of encoder and decoder methods to transmit data at Trellis code rate 3/2. A trellis encoder performs like a Finite State Machine (FSM) using convolution coding and later, the decoder works for Maximum Likelihood (ML) detection with the help of a state table and trellis diagram while both the algorithms are simulated using MATLAB.
