The determination of differences between yield, yield characteristics, physiological and some parameters in the main and second crop of hybrid corn (Zea mays L.) grown in Aydin

The purpose of this study was to detect the differences between the main and second crops corn product in Aydın. Field experiment were conducted at Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Agriculture Research and Production Farm during 2005-2006. The experiment was performed in a randomized plot design with 4 replicates. Experimental materials were two hybrid corn varieties (PR31G98, 32K61). In 11 terms of growth and development stages; V4, V8, V12, V16, teaseling, silking, blister, milking, dough, denting and physiological maturity dry matter production (kg/da) and 5 physiological parameters; leaf area index (LAI), leaf area ratio (LAR), net assimilation rate (NAR), crop growth rate (CGR), relative growth rate (RGR) were measured. In addition grain yield, plant height, height of first ear, ear length, number of kernels per ear and thousand grain weights, the grain protein and oil percentage were determinate.As a result of this study growth period of corn in the main crops had shorter than the second product. In this case it was observed the generative period. It was found out with GDD value that a growth and development phase of plant was directly affected by the heat. It was determined that plant height, height of first cob, grain yield, number of kernels per cob and grain oil content of both cultivars in the main crop condition were higher than that of the second crop condition.
