Abstract (EN)
Although there is a large literature on the concept of intellectual, there is no evaluation about people who have been the object of intellectual's ideas, who have listened and discussed. Intellectual was regarded as a foreigner in the face of the public, which was conceived as a monophonic crowd. In the novels, intellectuals have been told far from the public, stranger and alone. However, examining the intellectual through the relationship he established with a minor person, his/her second man, rather than his relationship with the public, may provide a new perspective in addition to the present literature. Bilaterally analyzing the communication by taking the second man to the center is a new reading proposal for the problem of intellectuals in Turkish novels. In this thesis, which broadly refers to people who can listen to the intellectual as the "second man", the character couples İhsan-Mumtaz in Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's Huzur novel, Selim-Turgut in Oğuz Atay's novel Tutunamayanlar, and Celâl-Galip in Orhan Pamuk's Black Book have been analyzed in the context of the dialectic of the intellectual and the second man. In the first part, the intellectual and the second man were evaluated in a conceptional and historical framework; In this evaluation, the information provided by philosophy, religion, sociology, politics, academia, and media were used. In the second part, the examples of the intellectual and the second man in the Turkish novel are outlined through prominent examples, and in the third part, some views of Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, Oğuz Atay, and Orhan Pamuk about the intellectual and the intellectual's parables are evaluated. In the fourth chapter, the characters of the intellectual and the second man were analyzed through three selected novels were analyzed in terms of how the relationship between them was handled, what are their differences and similarities, and which things they were represented from the period they were written.
