Caria area's Terracotta figurines light of the Aydın Museum examps

In this study, a total of seventy-four terracotta figurines that were brought to Aydın Archeology Museum between 1959 and 2004 by means of grants, procurement, confiscation, restitution and excavation were evaluated. Eighteen of these figurines come from the cities of Caria, while twenty-eight of them come from the cities of Southern Ionia. Hyllarima, Tralleis and Halicarnassos are among the cities of Caria Region and Miletos, Didyma, Priene and Myus are the ancient cities in the Ionia Region. The figurines examined in the study are divided into 8 main typologies and 31 subtypes in total. In this study, it was determined that the figurines from Caria region belonged to cavalry, hydriaphoros, priest, ephebos, quiver of ephebos, nun of Aphrodite, Aphrodite and grotesque types. The figurines from the South Ionia region belong to Apollon, Ariadne - Tykhe, polos with woman / goddess, athlete, dressed woman, girl, animal, actor, protome and hydriaphoros. As a result of the evaluation of figurines discussed in the study. It was found to cover a period from the 6th century BC to the 2nd century AD. The earliest group among these figurines is the cavalry, high polos woman / goddess head dated to the Late Archaic Period, and the foot and kouros figurines made for votive purposes. The figurines dating to the Classical Period include hydriaphoros, priest, dressed woman / goddess, horse figurine, kourotrophos, protome and athlete figurines. In the Hellenistic Period, there are sitting Aphrodite, Ariadne - Tykhe, Apollo, actor, Pan, Eros, dressed women, female heads, epheb figurines and children figurines. The Roman Imperial Period figurines include Aphrodite, Artemis, female head, ephebos, cavalry, gladiator, grotesque and eagle figurines. The figurines examined in the study have been found to have reddish yellow clay color tone in general. As a result of clay characteristics and stylistic evaluations of the 28 figurines which are not known, these figurines were found to be specific to the cities of Caria and Ionia.
