Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, Azerbaijani foreign policy after independence is the focus of study and Azerbaijan's relations with the "international society" is analyzed within the framework of English School's international society theory. Emphasizing the importance of institutionalization in international relations, the process of integration with the international society through international organizations, the application of the concept of international society to the non-Western/ non- European regions are examined and if the mutual expectations of parties overlap with each other. In this context Azerbaijan's cooperation within international organizations, as well as the conflicts and cooperation with the states in Caucasia have been taken into consideration. After the independence, how the foreign policy decision-making mechanism was structured and how the strategies of foreign policy were determined are among the subtopics of the thesis. The adoption of the common values of the international society, the structuring of the foreign policy decision-making mechanism with these values had positive impact on the integration of post-independence Azerbaijan into the international society. However, taking into account the economic, historical and political conditions of the geopolitical position, Azerbaijan has pursued a balanced foreign policy by paying close attention to the geographical values as well as the basic values of the international society's institutions and international organizations. The war situation between Azerbaijan and Armenia after the independence and deterioration of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan has turned the Caucasus region into a hot conflict environment. Based on the principle of multilateralism in foreign policy, economic, political and military cooperation with international organizations is of great importance in terms of ensuring stability in the region.
