Effectiveness of anti- inflammatory agents in azoxymethane induced experimental colon cancer

Abstract (EN)

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in men and women. The anti-inflammatory or antioxidant mediators are known to be effective against colorectal cancer. In this study, the rosmarinic acid was aimed to investigate the anticancer effect against colorectal cancer induced by azoxymethane in rats. In this study, the rats were divided into 3 groups. In addition to the standart diet of the control group, 15,8% peanut oil was added and 0,9% saline was injected once a week for 4 weeks. In addition to the standart diet of the azoxymethane group, 15,8% peanut oil was added and and this group were induced colon cancer by injecting 15 mg/kg azoxymethane (AOM) i.p. once a week for the first four weeks. In addition to the standart diet of the azoxymethane+rosmarinic acid group, 15,8% peanut oil was added and this group were induced colon cancer by injecting 15 mg/kg azoxymethane (AOM) i.p. once a week for the first four weeks. In addition to diet of this group, during the experiment, treatment group was formed by giving oral daily 5 mg/kg rosmarinic acid. Samples taken by all groups sacrificed at the end of 30 weeks were performed biochemical and histopathological examinations. The results of the histopathological adenocarcinoma 87,5% and dysplasia 12,5% were observed in the AOM group. Adenocarcinoma 66,7% and dysplasia 33,3% were observed in the AOM+rosmarinic acid. Compared with controls were observed significant decrease in TAS and adiponectin levels, a significant increase in the TOS and MCP-1 levels in AOM group. Treatment group, compared with AOM group significant changes were observed only TAS in plasma, TOS and MCP-1 levels in tissue. Consequently anticancer activity of rosmarinic acid observed by a decrease in the incidence of tumor but in some biochemical parameter is determined whether this image. More work for the effectiveness of rosmarinic acid and dose-finding studies should be performed. Keywords: Colorectal cancer, rosmarinic acid, adiponectin, MCP-1
