Within the scope of this thesis, events from the period of Shah Jahan's princely years up to the years 1627 and 1628, when he ascended to the throne of the Mughal Empire, are examined. The study focuses on Shah Jahan's foreign policy and his diplomatic and military relations with the Safavid Empire, the Khanate of Bukhara, the Deccan Sultanates, the Ottoman Empire and the Portuguese. Regarding his domestic policies, the thesis addresses two major uprisings that took place during his reign as well as the succession struggles among his four sons, which ultimately resulted in Shah Jahan's loss of the throne. In the final section, the cultural life during the reign of Shah Jahan is discussed, providing an overview of the cultural geography established by the Mughals in this region.
