The purpose of this study is to measure the effect of finger number notation and positional notation used in long-necked baglama education on sight-reading success of students. The study group of the research consists of n = 10 first-grade undergraduate baglama students from the Turkish Folk Music (TFM) art major in the department of Turkish Music at the Turkish State Conservatory of Kafkas University in 2017-2018 school year. In this study, after determination of the research subject, the literature review was done. The research subject was finalized, and then the method of the research was determined. Afterwards, in accordance with the method that was determined, the equivalency test was carried out in order to create two equal groups. With the pre-test application, the study groups were made to play three musical works determined by the experts and after being recorded they were sent to the experts. Pre-test scores were graded according to the performance rating form approved by the experts. Ten-week exercises for finger number notation and positional notation were carried out. In the post-test phase, the evaluation procedure was carried out by re-recording post-application sight-reading performances of the students, and submitting them to the expert opinion. The method of the research is quasi-experimental and pre-test post-test design without a control group was used. The pre-test and post-test differences were compared after ten weeks of application which was applied by using duate and positional notations. Prior to the analysis, it was examined whether the data met the assumption of normality or not. Based on the findings obtained; it is concluded that during the sight-reading of the students, duate and positional notations are effective in performing the melody correctly, performing the rhythmic structure of the work correctly, performing the melody intervals of the work with the correct fingers, performing the rhythmic structure of the work in accordance with the correct plectrum directions, and performing the work at the exact tempo.
