The first lesson in bağlama teaching: A research on the structuring of bodily posture instruction

In teaching musical instruments, one of the psychomotor skill areas is physical setup, which is the first and most important step to teach to individuals. This is also of great importance when teaching the bağlama instrument. However, there is a significant lack of scientific studies on the preferred physical setup stages for teaching the instrument, and on the taxonomy of these stages. This study is based on the curiosity surrounding the implementation of this important stage of Bağlama training and the taxonomy with which it is associated. The study aims to establish a consensus among experts on the stages that comprise this taxonomy. The study is structured as a mixed-methods study, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches, and is modelled on an exploratory sequential design. Data collected via interviews and surveys using the Delphi technique were subjected to content and statistical analysis. The validity and reliability of the study were verified by a panel of experts consisting of two academics specialising in music and instrument education, and one academic specialising in educational sciences. Data collection for the study proceeded in three rounds: the first was qualitative, while the second and third were quantitative. In the first round, interviews were conducted with 34 panelists teaching bağlama courses at various higher education institutions in our country. Physical setup gains in bağlama were obtained. In the second and third rounds, the same panelists were presented with the data obtained here and asked to emphasise the importance of each gain item in teaching by scoring them on a Likert scale. As a result of the data obtained from the second and third rounds, the majority of panellists reached a consensus on twenty categories and twenty-seven learning outcomes across seven themes within the common learning outcomes. Based on these findings, the panelists developed a taxonomy of learning outcomes that they deemed appropriate and sufficient for context-based physical education lessons.
