Harmonic and melodic analysis of the new practices in the Selpe technique in bağlama

Technique in Bağlama?This study comprises of the research on the hand technique (şelpe) in bağlama onwhich plenty of new improvements currently take place. Historical background of the handtechnique is researched and its connections with the present day is revealed. Tradidional formof the technique and the present developments in the use of this technique is examined in thecontext of this study. The research shows the reactivation in the use of this traditional way ofbağlama playing and the developments in the performance and the spreading in the field ofuse of the technique. It is concluded that the recent developments have a positive effect onTraditional Turkish Music. The insufficiency of the sources in the course of researh showsthat there are more and more players from day to day but no sufficient number of scientificstudy in this subject yet. More scientific study is needed in order to contribute, drive andencourage the development of this traditional technique. This study is presented to serve themore complex scientific and analytical studies on the current developments of the traditionalhand technique its new forms and help the development of more detailed and safer methods inthe analysis of the current form of the hand technique in bağlama playing.Keywords: Bağlama, şelpe, hand technique on bağlama, üçtelli (three-stringed bağlama),analysis, Traditional Turkish Music.
