Comparative analysis of the organizational identities of independent sports federations with multi-case study

In this research, the similar and different aspects of the organiation identities of the Turkish Volleyball Federation (TVF) and the Turkish Kick Boxing Federation (TKBF) were compared by describing.This research was designed as a holistic multiple-case (Type 3), one of the qualitative research designs. Criterion sampling, one of the purposeful sampling methods, was preferred in determining the study group. Document analysis, researcher's diary and semi-structured interviews were used to ensure the validity of the research and to describe the organizations in depth. In addition, a consensus was achieved between the coders in the data analysis process. According to the findings obtained as a result of the research, the basic values of TVF; high sense of belonging and dedication, success orientation, infrastructure and education focus, libertarian structure, and the perception of fundamental values that attach importance to ideas and are open to innovation have come to the fore. Although an institutionalized organizational structure is dominant within the federation, the effectiveness of the General Directorate of Sports Services (GDSS) brings a hybrid structure. In addition to its strong relations with external and internal stakeholders, its effectiveness on international sports organizations and its technical commitment to these organizations is another finding that stands out.Finally, it was determined that there is a dominant perception of female hegemony on the TVF. The findings of TKBF organizational identity indicate that the basic values of TKBF; high perception of belonging and dedication, the perception of an organization based on national values, perception of basic values dominated by discipline and impartiality have come to the fore, came to the fore. While the federation stands out as a president-oriented federation, a perception of an organization structured under the umbrella of the ministry has been identified. In addition, the findings of the federation's strong ties with various public and political organizations and the perception of effectiveness and technical commitment on international sports organizations were determined. As a result, it has been determined that external factors are effective on the identities of both federative sports organizations. In parallel with this result, it was concluded that while TKBF exhibited a normative identity structure, it exhibited a hybrid identity structure unique to TWF, and the organizational culture, image and management dimensions that shape identity also exhibited different identity structures from each other.
