Abstract (EN)

This master's thesis aims to examine the evolution of the media sector in Uzbekistan after independence and to illuminate this transformation process through the example of Uzbekistan TV channel. The history of mass media in Uzbekistan, especially television, is discussed together with the post-independence development process. In 1991, the media sector in Uzbekistan, which gained its independence in 1991, grew rapidly under the influence of international influences, enabling the establishment of private TV channels in addition to state-owned TV channels. In addition, after independence, the Constitution of Uzbekistan introduced new laws defining the duties, responsibilities and rights of the media and mass media, contributing to the formation of a free media sector. This study analyses the history of Uzbekistan TV channel, one of the first television channels in Uzbekistan. Mass media is considered the face and identity of a country, and television in particular plays a critical role in promoting a country in the international arena. This research is based on the encyclopaedia of the history of media in Uzbekistan, information from books by authors and journalists, internet searches and interviews with journalists. Interviews were conducted with journalists working for existing private and state-owned television channels in Uzbekistan in order to conduct a more comprehensive investigation on the issue. As a result of the interviews, some data on the current problems and achievements in the media sector of Uzbekistan were obtained. The data on the historical development of the TV channel of Uzbekistan are analysed in the results of the study, and the difficulties encountered and achievements achieved in this process are discussed. This thesis contributes to the understanding of the changes in Uzbekistan's media sector and the evaluation of these transformations in a broader context.
