Abstract (EN)
This thesis aims to thoroughly examine the social, economic, and political impacts of water resource management in Central Asia and Kyrgyzstan after independence. Kyrgyzstan, located in a strategic position as the birthplace of significant water resources in the region, plays a decisive role in water management policies. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Central Asian countries have faced significant challenges in ensuring the fair and sustainable management of water resources. This study analyzes the impacts of the infrastructure and management systems inherited from the Soviet era, focusing on disputes and cooperation efforts related to water sharing between states after independence. Inequities in the distribution of water resources, infrastructure deficiencies, the effects of climate change on water management, and regional cooperation shortcomings are key issues addressed in this thesis. Furthermore, the impact of delimitation and demarcation issues on water conflicts is examined in detail, and solutions are discussed through regional cooperation and innovative management strategies.
