Abstract (EN)

This study examines the effects of Alevism on daily life and cultural practices in the Macarlar neighbourhood of Altıeylül Neighborhood of Balıkesir province, where Alevi population is densely populated. In the study, the belief, identity and ritual practices of the Alevi community in the neighbourhood are analysed in depth through qualitative research methods. In this context, the cultural practices of the community were directly observed through interviews with neighbourhood residents and participation in rituals. The research aims to reach a local profile of Alevism by examining the effects of Alevism on social relations, identity and sense of belonging in the Macarlar Neighbourhood. The findings make important contributions to understanding the ways in which Alevi identity is expressed in this neighbourhood and the ways in which it is transmitted between generations. The study also constitutes a source for Alevism research in Turkey by revealing the contributions of Alevism culture to social diversity. The study focuses on the Macarlar neighbourhood of Balıkesir province and examines the Alevi community in the region in terms of historical process, belief, worship, customs and traditions, moral rules and demographic structure.
