Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality environmental policies

In this study, environmental policies of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality were examined. By making a literature review, information about the concepts related to the thesis study is given. The activities of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality regarding environmental problems have been examined through Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality 2020-2024 Strategic Plan, Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality 2022-2024 Revised Strategic Plan, 2021 and 2022 Activity Reports, and the studies have been evaluated and interpreted. The activities of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality regarding environmental policies have been examined by distinguishing between environmental protection and climate change and zero waste and waste management. It has been observed that the Metropolitan Municipality has many practices and strategies on these issues. As a result of the study, it has been determined that the city-wide activities related to environmental protection and climate change are carried out through applications and projects such as air, water and noise pollution, climate change, solar power plant establishment, use of public transportation vehicles with compressed natural gas, geothermal drying project, air quality and coastal observation station. . It is seen that the activities carried out by the Metropolitan Municipality within the scope of zero waste and waste management are carried out on the collection and disposal of wastes such as domestic solid wastes and medical wastes. In addition, it was determined that waste awareness was created in the public and environmentally friendly policies were implemented in the city with the activities of separation of wastes at the source, recycling of wastes and advanced recycling processes. The practices of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality and the use of platforms that enable the public to share environmental data in the city clearly show that the implementation process of environmental policies is carried out transparently. In addition, it is seen that Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality carries out its activities in accordance with its strategic goals and objectives regarding the environment and environmental problems.
