Abstract (EN)

The objective of this study is to find out the samples of needle oya works in Balıkesir province Gönen district, to examine the oya craft in terms of socio-economic aspect, to find out the extent to which Gönen Public Education Center contribute to needle oya craft and to evaluate the needle oya course program in terms of compatibility with educational principles.As data collecting tool, a questionnaire and an information from was employed, data were transferred to tables and evaluated in percentage and numeric.According to the data obtained;The majority of the individuals participating in the study were primary school graduates, married and middle-aged women. Synthetic yarn, as the material, is used in composing needle oya works.In the manufacture of needle oya and needle lace works, triangle and square knots are applied. Flowery and geometric motifs were implemented in needle oya works.Learning to perform needle oya is learnt through in the family and relatives. Many of the individuals are engaged in oya making to contribute to the family budget, and trousseau. As for economic contribution, it was found out that the income of the individuals producing oya is less and they face the problem of marketing their products.It was found out that the duration of needle oya course offered by Public Education Centers are sufficient and it should be reinforced in terms of terminology, concept and subject matter.Gönen Public Education Center and Municipality collaborate in a manner to encourage needle oya production and hold contests and every Tuesday of the week needle oya market is set up.
