Abstract (EN)

The banking sector has a great place and importance in the financial system. Banks provide the amount and maturity conversion of the funds by attracting the saved funds into the system. Thus, they enable the transfer of funds between the parties more easily and quickly. In addition, banks perform important functions such as registering money and increasing the effectiveness of monetary policy. This study aims to evaluate the changes and developments in banks' funding and disbursement paths in 2007-2017 period. This coverage, the study consists of three parts. In the first part, general banking activities, the classification of banks, banking development in the world and in Turkey and banking risks were discussed. In the second part, the funding sources and fund usage areas of the Turkish banking system are explained in detal. Finally, in the third part, the data summarized in the financial statements of the banking system for the period 2007-2017 are evaluated. In the relevant period, deposits, which are the main funding source of banks, remained important. However, diversification and increase in non-deposit resources has been observed. In addition, parallel to the continuous increase in exchange rates, foreign currency deposits of banks increased. But, it was also found that this parallelism was not reflected in foreign currency loans. In the same period, it was determined that, the share of banks' equity in total liabilities decreased.
