Abstract (EN)
Dams provide many benefits for society such as water supply, flood control, hydropower, irrigation and recreation. Although dams are very safe structure, many disaster occurred in the past show that every dam can fail and has risk to fail. In the case of the dam failure, large quantities of stored water in the reservoir releases through the breach into the downstream of the valley and can create major floods that can cause a great number of death and serious damages. Therefore, it is important to predict potential flood conditions resulting from potential failure of a dam and to develop emergency action plans including inundation maps and evacuation plans. In this study dam break phenomenon and solutions techniques for routing of resultant flood waves were presented. A case study was performed on Kozan Dam by using a computer model NWS FLDWAV.
