The use of Baris Manco's songs in teaching Turkish to foreigners

The aim of this study is to teach Turkish as a foreign language by Barış Manço songs; teaching the alphabet, vocabulary, idioms and proverbs along with basic language skills, to increase motivation, improve pronunciation and investigate its usability in the transfer of value and culture. In this study, document review and content analysis methods from qualitative research models were used. In the study, the data were collected by examining the songs with the document examination method and the data were analyzed by the content analysis method. The research has a qualitative perspective shaped by the method of scanning and purposefully analyzing audio files. In this study, 137 songs in 5 albums of Barış Manço released between 1962-1981 and 12 albums released between 1975-1999 are accepted as the universe, while 68 songs selected from the songs in accordance with the purpose are the sample. Since some of the songs in the 45 and albums are the same, this situation was taken into account when determining the universe and sample. Purposeful sampling technique was used in sample selection. In the study, Barış Manço songs; ıt has been tried to explain with song examples that it can be used in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. In addition, it is aimed to prepare examples of activities from Barış Manço songs and to make the findings concrete. In the study, it was concluded that Barış Manço songs can be useful in teaching Turkish as a foreign language and that these songs can be used actively. It has been concluded that Barış Manço songs can be used in teaching alphabet and concepts, teaching proverbs, idioms and stereotypes, transferring social values and culture, improving pronunciation and increasing motivation.
