An examination on the effect of peaceful life skills education program on pre-school children's social adaptation and skills

This study aimed to examine the effect of Peaceful Life Skills Education Program's on pre-school children. In this research, pre test - post test control grouped quasi experimental model was used. The sample of the research was formed of 50 students at the age of 5 studying at Malatya Kamu Görevlileri preschool and who showed usual progress of growing. 25 of the students take place in the experiment and the other 25 were in control group. Social Adaptation and Skill Scale which is approved to be valid and credible by Işık (2007) was used to gather the data. Demographical information regarding the students and their families were gathered by the Personal Information form which is generated by the researcher. Social Adaptation and Skill Scale filled by the students' teacher for each of the student, before the implementation of the program, as a pre-test. Then, Peaceful Life Skills Education Program had been applied to the experiment group of students for 12 weeks, a day in a week, by the researcher. The students who took place in the control group did not attend the education program and proceeded on their regular education program. After the application, Social Adaptation and Skill Scale was once again filled by the students' teacher for each student as a post-test. SPSS was used for the analysis of the data. Percentage and frequency evaluations were carried out for the demographical data of the children and their families. T test is used to compare the results of the students who were in the experiment group and others in the control group. The significance value of 0.05 was set. As a conclusion of this study, the education program has affirmative effects on pre-school children's social adaptation and skills.
