The role of parents in a success-promoting family structure: values education in the context of Doğan Cüceloğlu's works

The aim of this study is to reveal how values education and religious values are transmitted in Doğan Cüceloğlu's books Geliştiren Anne Baba (Developing Parents) and Başarıya Götüren Aile (The Family that Leads to Success). The research seeks to emphasize the fundamental role that values education plays in individuals' personal development and social lives while also highlighting the critical impact of parents on child development. Among the ten core values included in the values education guide published by the Ministry of National Education (MEB)—which encompass important elements such as justice, gratitude, peace, responsibility, patience, respect, tolerance, being virtuous, love, cooperation and solidarity, thrift, honesty, self-confidence, and sensitivity—it was determined that these values are present in the examined books.During the data collection process, the ten core values defined by the MEB were examined, and both books were read thoroughly to systematically identify the values embedded in their content. These values were then evaluated from the perspectives of values education and religious values using a document analysis method. By employing the document analysis method with a descriptive analysis approach, the value discourses in both works were examined in detail to determine which values were emphasized, through which institutions these values were transmitted, and how they were presented to the reader.The findings indicate that both books place particular emphasis on the values of respect and love, while the concepts of responsibility and self-confidence are also significantly represented. The data demonstrate that Cüceloğlu's works contain rich value-based content and provide readers with a comprehensive values education. Moreover, it is concluded that these personal development books should be supported and disseminated by relevant institutions in accordance with the core values established by the MEB.
