Evaluation of the relationship of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children with simple injuries

Although there is a risk of simple injury in children, this risk increases even more in children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The our aim of this study is to investigate the frequency of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children aged 6-12 years who applied to our hospital with minor injuries and to compare the data we will obtain with the group consisting of children in the normal population. In the study, 80 children with a minor injury and 80 healthy children without a any injury were compared in terms of ADHD level. To the parents of the children included in the study; Sociodemographic Data Form and Conner's Parent Rating Scale (CPRS-48) and Turgay Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Assessment Scale were given to be filled. The data obtained as a result of this study were evaluated with the help of the SPSS package program and the percentage, median, minimum and maximum values were presented. Chi-square, Mann Whitney U and Spearman correlation analysis were used in the study and p<0.05 was accepted as a significance level. Turgay-hyperactivity (p=0.001), Turgay-total (p=0.015) and Conners-hyperactivity (p=0.001) scores in the trauma group were found to be significantly higher than the scores of those without trauma. Turgay-hyperactivity (p=0.001), Turgay-total (p=0.015) and Conners-hyperactivity (p=0.001) scores in the trauma group were found to be significantly higher than the scores of those without trauma. There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of other scores (p>0.05). A positively and significant correlation was observed between Turgay attention deficit score and Turgay hyperactivity and Conners scale scores. There was a significant positive correlation between Turgay hyperactivity and Conners scores (except for Conners-psychosomatic disorder). There was a significant positive correlation between Turgay total score and Conners scores. As a result, in this study, it was observed that hyperactivity scores were higher in children with minor injuries. For this reason, it is important to evaluate children with frequent minor injury trauma in terms of ADHD. At the same time, it would be beneficial to keep children with ADHD under control by taking precautions against minor injuries at home or outside.
