Abstract (EN)
Printmaking, continuing its existence through a dynamic attitude within the scope of contemporary art, reaches to the audience via the borders that are ambiguated by today's pursuits. As a democratic way of artistic creation, printmaking is gaining a new meaning by means of both technical and technological offerings today. In this paper, by using an approach in which the traditional limits of printmaking have been pushed, printmaking has been examined on the basis of hybrid printmaking, digital printmaking, large-scale prints and print installations. Artists, who are well-known for their innovative approaches, such as Robert Rauschenberg, Eduardo Paolozzi, Thomas Kilpper, Kiki Smith, Swoon, John Hitchcock, Regina Silveria, Nicola Lopez, Nancy Spero, Paul Coldwell, Julian Opie, Michael Craig-Martin, Peter Kennard, Willie Cole have been discussed by starting with the interpretation of tdevelopments that have affected the process of modernization. It has been scrutinized the understanding, which extinguishes the borders and the rules that is a reflection of the change being experienced in today's art world on printmaking. The liberal attitude with a completely limitless approach in terms of object, technique and the way of thinking, appeared in parallel with the technological developments, has been assessed within the context of all the events shaping the process of contemporary printmaking along with the modern dynamics, the ways of production and presentation after a historical review. Within the frame of contemporary approaches, it has been discussed the societies and publications shaping today's printmaking, and international events providing an expressive platform for artists, as well as the digital phenomenon being experienced through Internet.By use of both traditional methods and experimental researches, this study named "New Pursuits in Printmaking (The European and American Instances)" will attempt to shed light on new manners of expressions of printmaking shaped by the cultural and technological interactions with a fertile history.
