Abstract (EN)
The aim of the study is to guide family physicians in chronic pain management by examining the relationship between chronic pain and sociodemographic characteristics and the treatment approaches applied in chronic pain. Of the 3106 individuals who applied to the polyclinics of a university hospital between 01.12.2011 and 01.12.2019 and were diagnosed with 'chronic pain' by physicians, 997 patients who remained after the exclusion criteria were included in the study. Sociodemographic characteristics and data of the patients were registered to the SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) program to be evaluated statistically. The mean age of the patients was 62.68±16.29 years (16-98 years). Of a total of 997 patients, 23.2% of 589 patients whose files could contain smoking data, and 8.8% of 499 patients with knowledge of alcohol use were using alcohol. At least one chronic disease was detected in 81% (n=808) of the patients. The rate of those who received treatment for pain regardless of their chronic diseases before admission was 64.6% (n=644). It was determined that 4% (n=40) of the patients included in the study continued the treatment they had received before their outpatient clinic application. According to the statements of the patients, the change in treatment at the time of admission provided a benefit of 76.4%. In the analyzes performed, the response to treatment was not statistically correlated with sociodemographic variables. There was no difference between the treatment responses of those who received treatment before admission and those who did not. In this study, it was observed that the demographic characteristics of chronic pain and the treatments that the patients received before their admission to the primary care center were not effective in providing the pain control of the patients.
