The effects of different teaching methods in basketball on learning areas of students

The purpose of this research was to explore and to compare the basketball game in diferrent teaching methods used in learning areas (cognitive, affective and psycho-motor) on physical education course sport knowledge and skills.The sample of the study was taken from Denizli Merkez Raşit Özkardeş Primary School 6th grade students who have physical education class with some similiar variables (age, gender, skills, background etc.). The sample size was 2 groups in total of 54 students.To collect the data of cognitive measures of students ?Basketball Sucess Test? was developed by the researcher. The psycho-motor skills in basketball units which covers some of the process steps were determined by ?Observation Forms? developed by the researcher. To measure the affective areas of student attitudes ?Basketball İnterest Scale? was also developed and used by the researcher.The research group of students were sorted by age, gender the frequency identifier, means and standard deviation values were determined. Cognative, affective and psycho-motor areas of normality distributions were analyzed, independant group tests and Wilcoxon two-sample test anaysis were used.As a result; when looked at the cognitive results of the students, directing to guided discovery method showed significantly higher growth according to the command method. Although a marked improvement in favor of the guided discovery method, a significant difference between the command style and guided discovery method was not available. However, the guided discovery method was directed to a higher level of emotional impact according to the command style method can be said. In the field of all skill areas of psycho-motor skills, significant difference have been identified in favor of the guided discovery method.As a result, physical education and sport, which was directed to a method of student-centered method of the guided discovery , a method of teacher-centered method, according to the command style, said to be more effective on areas of learning.Keywords: Physical Education and Sports, Learning Areas, Basketball, Teaching Methods, Guided Discovery Style, The Command Style
