Abstract (EN)

This research thesis is composed of three chapters which investigate the concepts of ?woman image and sexuality? from a critical point of view, within the frame of ?press advertisement?, which is one of the most influential among visual media. To be able to elaborate on the representation of woman image and sexuality as a never ending source exploited by visual world, the concept of ?image? should be explained in the first place. Therefore, first chapter of this research discusses the relation between seeing and image, meanings of images, and photografic images as the visual element most frequently resorted to in press advertisement. Following chapter examines forms of representation of women, and place of woman image and sexuality in press advertisement, in the context of mass consumer culture of the 20th century. Finally, last chapter of this research links the way woman sexuality is used in press advertisement, with the concept of ?gender?; through contemparory instances of press advertisement, examines how gender roles, body, beauty and sexuality are reflected in advertisements; and discusses if ?woman image? that is continously being exploited by advertisement world would one day decolonize itself from ?sexism? which is one of the biggest problems of the modern life .Key Words: Woman, Image, Sexuality, Press Advertisement, Consumption
