Comparison of platelett-rich plasma gel and serum physiological dressings in the treatment of pressure wound for recovery process and costs

Pressure sores are a very important and serious problem of surgery as it increases morbidity, mortality, hospital stay and hospital expenses. In addition to the prevention of pressure sores, which is a quality indicator in health, treatment and care are of great importance. It is known that platelet rich plasma (PRP) is used in many surgical fields to accelerate healing in wounds. However, in the literature, there has not been enough research on the effects of PRP dressing on pressure sores. This study was carried out in Zonguldak Atatürk State Hospital Palliative Care Department, between the dates of 05.05.2018-01.05.2019 with 60 patients that over 18 years old, blood pressure and life findings were normal, have II.stage pressure sores in the coccyx region. In order to monitor the healing process of pressure sores, PRP gel dressing and Serum Physiological (SF) gauze dressing was applied and evaluated with PUSH scale. In addition to descriptive statistical methods, Mann Whitney U test, Wilcoxon test, Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro Wilkındas tests were used in SPSS 16.0 program. Findings have been evaluated 0,05 meaning level. In this study, when the pressure sores that were dressed with SF were evaluated in terms of exudate and tissue type; There was no statistically significant difference between the observations after the first dressing (1st Observation) and the observations after the dressing at the end of the second month (20th Observation) (p> 0.05). When pressure sores treatment with the PRP gel dressing is evaluated in terms of exudate and tissue type; After the first dressing (1st Observation) and the post-dressing observation at the end of the second month (20th Observation), there was a statistically significant difference between the results of the observations (p <0.001). In line with these findings, the study showed that PRP gel dressing has a more favorable effect than conventional dressing SF dressing to improve pressure sores and its cost is lower.
