Press function of establishing public opinion

This study has been carried out with an aim of examining press function of establishing public opinion. The goal of this study is to find out the potential influence of press on the process of public opinion formation. With this study it has been found thaf trying to establish public opinion the press causes the processes of spiral of silence and agenda setting to operate. İt has also been observed that the press influences these process with its way of news presentation. With this study the preblem of whether the press of which basic obligation is to contribute to the free formation of public opinion not to establish it towards a certain tendency is trying to direct the society has been aimed to reveal. As a result of the research conducted it has been found that after December 24 th Turkish General Elections the pess tried to influence the coalition talks process between ANAP and RP.
